机场的咖啡店内。在办理完登机手续之后，导游哈维和维多利亚一起陪
着洛克夫妇在机场的咖啡店内等候登机。突然之间他们听到了航班
取消的广播。
Announcer: …announce the cancellation of Flight..due to technical reasons.
Will all passengers with tickets for this flight please make your
way to the Asian Airlines information desk.
机场广播： 各位旅客，现在广播取消航班通知。由于技术原因航班
现已取消，请持有此航班机票的旅客前往亚洲航空公司
的柜台办理手续。
Lok: Which flight has been cancelled?
洛克： 哪个航班取消了？
Victoria: Your flight is still on the board. I'll find out for you.
维多利亚： 你们的航班仍然在显示牌上，我去帮您查询一下。
Victoria: Excuse me, could you tell me which flight has been cancelled?

在刚才我们学过的课文中，导游哈维对维多利亚使用了 Debrief 这个
词，这个词汇在字典里的原意是事后举行说明会，吹风会，特别是
在完成了一项军事行动之后，各方都会集中在一起讨论汇总情况。
不过这个词在现代口语中意思有了一些改变，同事之间互相
Debrief，意思就是大家互相吐苦水，减压力。这一点也显示了现代
英语的活力。
除了要对英语有比较好的了解之外，在与西方国家的商务伙伴打交
道时，我还建议您要特别注意以下几点：首先就是对彼此的文化差
异有足够的理解。特别是如果对方在言语或行为方面有冒犯您的时
候，不要立即认为对方是在有意侮辱您。不妨先从文化差异的角度
来理解这种情况。
第二点，大体上说西方人在谈生意时大多直来直去，干脆利索。这
可能与我们的做法有些不同。
第三点，如果在交谈过程中您觉得有任何的事情让您感到不自在，
您一定要向对方说明。通常来说对方会很愿意您这样做，因为这样
可以消除各方之间的误解，避免误判情势。
第四点，请留意对方的身体语言。谈话时保持与对方的眼神接触意
味着真诚与关注。另外，面带微笑和有力的握手也是西方人与朋友
打交道时惯常的做法。
最后我想提醒您的是，如果您希望用英语与对方交流，那么在出发
前将要谈的主要内容预先准备一下会有利于双方之间顺利的沟通。

人及如何说房间的号码，我们还学习了 I'll、和 we'll、这类的缩
略语、有关方位的介词及如何礼貌地表达"是"和"不是"的意
思。在接下来的这一课中，我们要学习诸如"Is that OK?" 这样的
安排可以吗？ 这类的短语。当你要确定客人是否满意你的某项建议
时，你就可以说 "Is that OK ？"这样的安排可以吗？另外，我
们还要学习有关 there is 和 there are ， 和 can 可以、能够及
could 可以、能够的用法。
好，在我们学习新的课程之前，首先让我们一起来复习一下入住酒
店的第一部分的对话。
Leo: Good afternoon. Can I help you?

也许有时您会感到在何种情况下该使用 can 或 could 令人疑惑，
其实从某种程度上讲这两个字是可以通用的。基本的原则就是如果
是你主动提出了某项建议，那么就要用 can, 例如: Can I help
you? 有什么可以为您效劳的吗？但是当你提出某项请求时，你就要
用 could. 例如:Could you fill out this form please? 请您填
一下这份表格。请听对话并跟着重复。

现在让我们来学习 there is 和 there are 的用法。当我们要表达
某处有一个物体的时候，我们就要说 there is, 例如:there is a
clock。那里有一个闹钟。There is 的缩略语是 there's,
there's a clock。那里有一个闹钟。此外，在描述的物体是不可数
名词时我们也要使用 there is 。不可数名词包括茶叶、水或糖等
等。例如" There's tea in the room" 。 房间里备有茶叶。在描
述复数的物体时，我们一定要使用 there are， 而且这个表述方法
没有缩略语形式，这一点请您特别注意。例如:there are two
guests in the lobby 酒店大厅有两位客人。 There are teamaking
facilities in every room。每个房间都有煮茶的设施。请
注意听下面的对话并跟着重复。

建议，我们也学习了表示大致方位的说法以及肯定回答的简略说
法。
在这一讲中，我们要学习更多有关提出建议的说法。同时老师还要
为你提供一些有关发音方面的小窍门。
在学习新的对话之前，让我们先一起来复习一下"提供建议"的第
一部分对话。

英语表达的是同样的意思。请注意听并跟着重复。

接下来请注意听琴是如何向蒙纳表示她可以立刻改正这个错误，解
决客人提出的问题。

Straight away 在这里表示的意思是"立刻，现在"， 还记得吗，
在第二节的对话中，当蒙纳要求为她的房间提供一个熨斗时，利奥
是这样说的:

I will see to it right away. 我立刻就处理这件事情。短语
" straight away" 和 " right away" 非常有用。你可以使用这
两个短语让客人明白你对他们提出的要求或者问题非常重视，并且

请注意，在英语的习惯中，为某一个错误表示道歉并不意味着你已
经承认了自己有错。它只是让客人感到你已经注意到了客人的不愉
快。一般来说，以英语为母语的客人在出现类似情况时通常会认为
服务人员应该如此这般地表示歉意。可以理解的是当错误不是由你

记程车的。在英语里，记程车有两个说法，一个是 taxi，另外一
种说法就是 cab。

在这种情况下，您可以使用 how about…. 这个短语句式，也可以
